1. Always Have a Plan B for a Rainy Wedding Day
If we can give you just one simple piece of advice to take away, it’s this: no matter how your day is planned, always have backup for rain. This is especially important if you’re dreaming of an outdoor ceremony – having a clear Plan B keeps the day running smoothly, and your nerves settled.
For example if your venue has suggested an outdoor drinks reception or photos on the lawn, check what their alternative space is Decide early on what you want to do if it’ds raining and stick to it – all professional wedding suppliers and photographers are used to adapting quickly and will have great idea about what you can do, so speak to them about if you’re worried on the days leading up.

– Check your venue has an indoor/covered area for you to hold your ceremony,

– Include the option of a marquee for that ‘indoors/ outdoors’ feel.
2. Umbrellas are your bestfriend (& other cosy essentials)
This might seem obvious, but having a selection of umbrellas on standby is invaluable, especially for sudden Suffolk showers. Keep a variety on hand for yourselves, your bridal party and your guests so no one gets caught off guard.
Coordinating umbrellas with your wedding colours looks beautiful in photos, and matching sets for the bridal party always go down well. Store them in baskets near the venue entrance so they’re easy for guests to grab.
A few thoughtful extras help too:
- White, clear or colour-matched umbrellas for aesthetic cohesion
- A basket of blankets, pashminas or shawls.
- Towels for seating or outdoor props.

3. Keep wellies nearby for outdoor photos
Your ceremony may be hosted out in the countryside or maybe has lots of scenic grounds you’re keen to explore, a quick footwear swap can save your shoes and your sanity. This is especially handy for marquee and festival-style weddings.
Get some wellies and keep them somewhere handy for a quick change if you need them. Some brides even colour-coordinate their wedding colours which is a really nice idea- a small switch that keeps you mud-free and comfortable.
4. Stay close & Keep warm
So the sky didn’t behave, but it’s still your wedding day. Use the cooler weather as an excuse to stay close, especially during photos. Rain often brings out the most atmospheric shots, and cuddling up naturally creates beautiful, genuine moments.
If the temperature dips later on, those blankets or pashminas will be a welcome treat. Guests love having something to wrap up in without needing to fetch a coat.
